The Healing Garden

Arroyo Grande Care Center residents will be growing their own produce from wheelchair accessible planters, selling the produce at local farmers markets and using the proceeds to feed the homeless.

Service-Based Therapy
Healing Lives, Healing Community

Traditional therapy across the country happens in the gym. Imagine doing therapy for a hip fracture or stroke that results in feeding the hungry or clothing homeless teens in our community. This is exactly what happens with Arroyo Grande Care Center’s new Service-Based Therapy Program. Patients will regain their strength while working with physical and occupational therapists at “The Teens Closet,” a free school supply and clothing store for teenage students in need. Or they can work at the “AGCC Healing Garden,” growing produce, selling it at the local farmer’s market and using the proceeds to feed the homeless at Prado Day Center. Participants in the AGCC Healing Garden and The Teens Closet will be doing functional therapy that helps heal our community while giving them a sense of pride and purpose in their daily lives.
